Leaders of the over 7,000 displaced persons in Daffo District of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, have called for a special security intervention that would allow them return to their respective communities displaced since 2018.
The Deputy Chairman of Daffo Mangai Community Development Association, Mr. Danlami Asado, made this outcry while commending the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu for the 500 million intervention to victims of conflict in Plateau State.
He described the donation as unprecedented, but however noted that the agrarian community has continued to face serious problems of various attacks and killings aside destruction of farmlands even while taking refuge in other communities considered to be safe for them before now.
He noted that leaders of the affected communities recently met to ensure that the donation allocated to their communities get to the rightful beneficiaries to avoid any form of diversion of the monitory intervention.
“The First Lady did something we have never seen before, we pray for good health and open doors for more of such interventions. We are also calling for a special security intervention by deploying more security forces to enable our displaced villagers return to their homes,” he stated
Asado further noted that the terrible condition of road from Bokkos town to Daffo, which has been under construction for over 15 years by the federal government, has also contributed to their plight.
“You can see for yourself that we don’t have good road, this road was first awarded in 2007 up till today, it still remains like that, our roads are not safe, we can’t access our homes and farms easily, worst of all in the case of emergency.
“As I speak to you, there are thousands of our people that have been displaced since 2018 and cannot return to their homes in places like Wereng, Hottom and Mandung. Even to access our farms, most often times, we have to be accompanied by security men, otherwise you will go and never return back alive again,” he said.
