• Gov Mutfwang calls for restraint

Gunmen have again attacked Chikam in Butura community of Bokkos Local Government of Plateau State, killing three persons, including an undergraduate.
The undergraduate that lost his life to the attack, which occurred on Thursday night, was identified as a 200-level student of Computer Science Development, Plateau State University, Bokkos.
It was also gathered that the gunmen stormed the community at about 9pm and started shooting sporadically.
The killing of the student led to a protest by students of the university, who were later dispersed by personnel of Operation Safe, the security team that has been maintaining peace in the area.
The State governor, Caleb Mutfwang, in his reaction on the incident, appealed for calm as security agencies are working to restore normalcy.
Mutfwang, who condemned the attack and described it as barbaric, reassured citizens, particularly students, of the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding their lives and property.
The governor urged them to remain composed in the face of the tragedy. He assured them that the government was determined to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the heinous act.
A statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, quoted Mutfwang as stressing the importance of collaboration among the university management, students, community leaders, and security agencies for enhanced security and the safety of everyone in the area.
He commended the swift response of security agencies to violent incident, and encouraged them to remain steadfast in fulfilling their constitutional duty to protect innocent citizens.
He stressed the need for community vigilance and cooperation to combat criminal activities and bring perpetrators and their accomplices to justice.
