The management of the Plateau State University, Bokkos, has ordered the closure of the in university following the killing of a student by persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

A statement signed the Registrar, Yakubu F. Ayuba on Saturday said that the university would be closed for ten days.

Sunday Sun had reported to that three people including a student were killed on Friday when rampaging gunmen invaded Butura community in Bokkos council.

The incident came after ten people were equally killed in neighbouring communities between Mangu and Langtang local government areas of the state two weeks ago.

The students had mounted a heavy protest, which was put down by men of the Operation Safe Haven OPSH.

The statement by the registrar said: “Following the sad incident that occurred in Plateau State University, Bokkos, and the surrounding communities on Friday, 19th April, 2024, and in view of the psychological effect of the unfortunate  incident on the students and staff of the University, Management has taken the painful decision to  close the University for ten days with effect from today, 19th April, 2024.

“This decision is to allow the security situation to improve and to lessen the human risk on the university community.

“Accordingly, the ongoing first semester examinations are hereby suspended to resume on Thursday, 2nd May, 2024.

“Furthermore, Management has made available buses to convey students who may be stranded from the University to Barkin Ladi, today, Friday 19th April, 2024.”
