The former chairman of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) in Gashish district of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Rwas Paul Danladi, has been killed.
Danladi was allegedly attacked at about 5:30 pm around Rantis Village while returning to Barkin Ladi on his motorcycle on Wednesday.
National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, said that the association was deeply saddened by the killing of a respected community leader and extended its condolences to his family, friends and the entire Gashish community.
The association also expressed dismay at the use of social media to distort facts and give a false narrative on the constant killings in Berom land, especially on the recent incident.
Tengwong particularly called on the security agencies to urgently investigate the social media activities of one person (names withheld), who, he alleged, shortly after the attack posted on Facebook that “two Fulanis were killed in Kafi Abu (Rakwok), the next village after Rantis.”
The statement said, “The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), under the leadership of Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, Esq., strongly condemns the killing of Rwas Paul Danladi, former Chairman of the BYM Gashish District, by armed Fulani assailants along the Gashish-Barkin Ladi road this evening.

“Of particular concern to BYM is the alleged use of social media to distort information and create a false narrative immediately after the incident. The association calls on the security agencies to urgently investigate the social media activities of a (Facebook user) who, shortly after the attack posted on Facebook that ‘two Fulanis were killed in Kafi Abu (Rakwok), the next village after Rantis.’
“The timing and content of the post require serious investigation, particularly as it was shared by several persons, and circulated across multiple groups.”
BYM asked the Department of State Security, DSS to thoroughly, impartially and professionally investigate the activities of these persons to establish the source of the information, how it was obtained so quickly, whether it was deliberately intended to mislead the public, and whether such activities form part of a broader pattern of propaganda designed to obscure attacks and inflame tensions.
