The Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN (COPSH) and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar has holds reconciliation meeting with Mwagavul and Fulani leaders in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State following months of incessant killings in the area.
He appeal to the waring parties to sheath their swords while assuring them of his commitment to end the lingering crisis in Mangu and Plateau State at large.
General Abubakar gave the assurances at a peace meeting held at his instance with stakeholders from Mwaghavul and Fulani community, in order to find a lasting solution to series of security challenges in Mangu local government area of the state.
The Media Information Officer, Operation Safe Haven(OPSH) Captain Oya James said the Commander gave both sides the privilege to voice out their grievances to find out what led to the attacks and subsequent reprisal attacks that have lasted for 3 months now.
General Abubakar urged both parties to embrace peace for development to thrive in the Council area and pleaded with them to sheath their swords as a welcome gift to him on the Plateau.
The new Commander promised to take the meeting to people in the remote areas where affected persons and the youths would be sensitized on the need to embrace peace.
He further advised the stakeholders to take the message of peace and reconciliation home to their people as two wrong can not make a it right.
General Abubakar assured them of the President’s and state Governor’s willingness to ensure the situation is brought to an end and their resolve to compensate those affected by the crisis in order to mitigate the impact of the crisis on them.
The Management Committee Chairman of Mangu Local Government Council, Hon. Markus Artu expressed gratitude to the Commander for initiating a stakeholders meeting at such a critical period and for remaining in Mangu to make sure peace is returned to the general area.
He urged both parties to embrace peace and also take the Commander’s assurances to heart for the sacrifice he had made by relocating to Mangu to restore normalcy in their land.
