No fewer than three persons lost their lives, three others injured in an accident that involved a trailer loaded with cattle at the Gada Biu flyover bridge in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The trailer conveying cattle from far northern states heading to the southern part of Nigeria is suspected to have lost control on the overhead bridge and landed down around 2am with about 30 cows dead.
Some vigilantes in the area, Mr Arinze and Kumz Yunana who first came to the rescue of survivors of the trailer accident, said those injured were taken to Bingham Specialist Hospital for treatment.
“The accident happened around 2am when we rushed to the spot. We discovered that the trailer was carrying cows with people and the trailer trapped some people.
“So, we had to call the police that are at the Gada Biu Police station to support us too. Three persons were lifeless at that time, while three persons sustained injuries, one broke his leg. Meanwhile about 30 cows were dead.”
It was gathered that the victims wm@@rushed to Bingham Teaching Hospital were later referred to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).
Rescue operations were seen in the early hours of Tuesday with dead bodies loaded in body bags while men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and VIO crane were seen towing the trailer away.
