The Plateau State governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Barr Caleb Mutfwang, has expressed a strong commitment to lead a peaceful electioneering campaign for the 2023 general elections.
Mutfwang in a press statement signed by the Atiku/Mutfwang campaign Director, Yiljap Abraham said there is no alternative to peaceful elections in Plateau.
The statement said the Governorship candidate made the pledge at a town hall meeting organised by the University of Jos in collaboration with Voice of America Hausa Service, held at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Jos.
The town hall meeting also featured the governorship candidates of the ADC, APC, PRP, SDP and APGA who all signed a peace pact to express commitment to peace during and after the election.
Mutfwang assured that his campaign organisation would run issues-based campaigns and avoid ethnic, religious and regional incitement.
He said“I am a democrat to the core, and I am a team player also. I have lost elections before, and I have also won elections”, saying he has been gracious in defeats and magnanimous in victory.
“However, If there is any infraction on due process, we will use the instrumentality of the law to challenge it.” He submitted.
Mutfwang reiterated his commitment to providing leadership that is required to govern with equity, justice, inclusiveness and giving a voice to the voiceless such as the disadvantaged groups…women, children and People Living With Disabilities.
He stated further that he will exercise political will in handling the reports of the various commissions of inquiry and Committees set up by successive administrations to unite the Plateau people.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Tanko Ishaya called on the candidates to partner with the Institution in the area of solutions delivery in governance projects and services rather than looking up to foreign nations.
The Director, Centre for Conflict Management and Peace Studies, Prof Danny McCain, appealed to the candidates and politicians generally to see Nigeria as the greater picture, and therefore conduct themselves in the most peaceful manner.
