Pinnacle Oil backs Enugu Marathon, deepens social impact drive

Marathon-1

Pinnacle Oil and Gas Limited, has emerged as the official energy partner of the 2026 Enugu City International Marathon.

The move according to the firm, strengthens its focus on health, wellness and community development as part of its broader Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda.

The partnership positions Pinnacle as a key supporter of an event aimed at using sport to promote healthy living, nurture athletic talent and boost Enugu’s profile as an emerging destination for international sports tourism.

Organised by Nilayo Sports Management Limited and endorsed by the Enugu State Government, the marathon will be held under the theme, “Tomorrow Runs Here,” and feature a 42-kilometre flagship marathon and a 10-kilometre road race.

The races are expected to attract elite international athletes, Nigerian runners, fitness enthusiasts and corporate teams, with the 42km route passing through some of Enugu’s major landmarks before finishing at Michael Okpara Square.

Pinnacle’s Managing Director/CEO, Adenike Labinjo, said the company’s decision to support the marathon was driven by its belief that sustainable development must extend beyond business growth to improving the wellbeing and prospects of people and communities.

“At Pinnacle, we believe that the strength of a nation is ultimately measured not only by the infrastructure it builds or the economy it grows, but also by the wellbeing, potential and aspirations of its people,” Labinjo said.

She said the company’s business of keeping industries and communities moving through the supply of lubricants, petroleum products and related services also aligned with the broader objective of enabling people to lead healthier and more productive lives.

“Our sponsorship of the Enugu City International Marathon is therefore a natural extension of that commitment,” she said.

Labinjo added that the company was particularly interested in the marathon’s potential to encourage young people to embrace sport, provide opportunities for emerging athletes and showcase Enugu to a global audience.

“The theme, ‘Tomorrow Runs Here,’ resonates strongly with us because tomorrow is not something we simply wait for; it is something we build through the choices we make today,” she said.

The 2026 marathon builds on the inaugural edition, with organisers targeting its establishment as a major fixture on Africa’s international road-racing calendar.

For Pinnacle, the partnership goes beyond conventional event sponsorship, representing an investment in healthier communities, youth development and social inclusion while reinforcing the company’s commitment to creating measurable social value alongside its commercial activities.
