A professor of Human Kinetics, Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan (UI), Prof. Andrew Fadoju has warned that physical inactivity can have serious implications on people’s health.
Prof. Fadoju disclosed this when he delivered an inaugural lecture titled: “Bonding Through Sports: The Electrovalent and Covalent Nature of Gregarious Beings,”
He explained that daily physical activity, such as regular exercise, releases endorphins, which are natural mood elevators and stress-reducing hormones, adding, “this can help prevent a range of mental disorders, including depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, and dissociative disorders.”
The professor emphasized that the implications of physical inactivity on human health are broad and unending.
He stated that it is the fourth leading cause of death worldwide, claiming 3.2 million lives annually according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
