Peter Obi, a former Labour Party presidential candidate, believes criticising foreign military presence is not unpatriotic.
Obi made this statement on Sunday, in response to a post on X. He claimed that the argument creates a false choice, as if there are only two options: welcome foreign troops or offer empty sympathy.
According to him, wanting accountability, sovereignty, and long-term self-reliance does not mean someone supports terrorism or prefers inaction, stressing that security cooperation is one thing while dependency is another.

“Criticism of foreign military presence isn’t unpatriotic. In fact, it can come from a place of wanting stronger institutions, better leadership, and a self-sufficient security architecture.
“We should demand effective solutions, not frame debate as accept help or keep quiet,” he wrote.
