- Demands urgent resolution
By Chukwuma Umeorah
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has decried the poor working condition and alleged mismanagement of resources at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) demanding immediate resolution.
PENGASSAN through a press statement revealed that despite prior attempts at resolution, it remained dissatisfied with the Commission’s response, prompting it moves towards civil disobedience.
Being a significant player in the sector, these issues with the NUPRC have created ripples of concern across the nation’s oil and gas sector.
The unresolved issues include pension non-remittance in line with the Pension Reforms Act (2014), a non-conducive work environment, insufficient working tools, inadequate medical facilities, outstanding payments, unpaid staff claims, and non-payment of outsourced personnel.
“The Union’s mandate is to work in partnership with the management to enhance the welfare of the staff and the overall growth of the organisation. However, the union’s potential move towards civil disobedience indicates the staff’s desperation for prompt resolution of these issues. It is a plea for the Commission’s management to respect and uphold their commitment to their workforce,” the union said.
PENGASSAN noted that it was beaming the spotlight on the management of NUPRC, highlighting the urgent need for effective and satisfactory resolution mechanisms to address these critical concerns that respect the rights and welfare of their staff and maintain the Commission’s integrity.
