Former member of the House of Representatives, Shina Peller, has charged President Bola Tinubu to invest in the creative industry as a means of empowering the youths in the country.
Peller, who represented Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency in the 9th Assembly, said
Nigerian youths have abundant potentials which should be properly harnessed for the overall benefits of the country.
The former lawmaker stated this at a dinner organized by the Nigerian Youths Stakeholders to honour him, for his contributions to youths development, in the country. He noted that the youthful population must be engaged meaningfully, for the country to make progress..
According to him, ” There is also a need to strengthen the creative industry, which was actually the last motion that I moved in the House before the end of the 9th Assembly. I called on the Federal Government to strengthen the creative industry; basically because an average African child has fire burning in them, creatively.
” I believe that once a country that is trying to diversify its economy from oil revenue should be able to look in that direction, definitely a lot of youths would get employed.”
Peller noted that, in his quest to empower the younger generation, he started the Lead Generation Initiative, through over 1700 Nigerian youths, across 18 states of the country, have been trained.
“We identify young minds and put them in a structure and begin to develop their interest on one, active citizenship, which is w ay for them to understand their rights, their roles, their responsibilities as citizens of this country. To develop their interest in nation building and also for them to understand the importance of politics, political mobilization and political organizing, ” he stated.
The Convener of the event, Olufowo Olarwnwaju Desmond, in his speech said said various youth groups across the country decided to come together to honour Peller for his contributions to the development of young persons.
“He has mentored a lot of young people. A lot of Nigerians have benefitted from him. He said he went into politics because of the youths and over the years, he has mentored millions. He also educated Nigerians and empowered and supported them to get involved in politics. Looking at a track record of excellence, we felt this is the time to honour a man who has given to the young people and to the society,” Desmond said.
