The Deputy National Chairman (North) of the Tanimu Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee (INWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hamza Koshe Akuyan, has been penciled to lead the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) 2027 campaign in Bauchi State.
Party sources said Akuyan’s position as Director-General of the APM Bauchi 2027 Campaign had been approved by the INWC, as part of the alliance between the two opposition parties as well as part of the strategy to ensure seamless fusion of the structures of the two parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Turaki bloc of the PDP and the APM had announced an alliance for the 2027 contest at a mega rally in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on May 14.
At the height of the PDP crisis, which has polarised the opposition party into two blocs, some PDP leaders, including the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and his Bauchi State counterpart, Bala Mohammed moved to the APM.
Makinde has since emerged as the APM’s 2027 presidential candidate, while the Bauchi Governor has clinched a senatorial ticket on the platform of the party.
According to inside sources, other leaders of the Turaki-led PDP, as well as leaders of other opposition parties, have been slated for active roles in the alliance with the APM in the coming campaigns.
One of the sources said: “I can confirm that leaders in the PDP and some other like-minded opposition parties have already keyed in and will be taking up active roles under the APM-PDP alliance.
“The two parties are converging efforts on best candidates at various levels under mutually accepted arrangements. It is a mutually benefitting arrangement to secure victory for the opposition candidates at all levels of the election.
“So, don’t be surprised when you see PDP leaders and members campaigning, working for or supporting APM candidates and in some places, APM leaders and members supporting the PDP candidates. That is an alliance, that is an arrangement.”
