The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-South zone assumed a new dimension with the majority of the leaders of the zone led by the chairmen fuming over an alleged plot to destroy the party.
They passed a vote of confidence in the four elected governors on the platform of the party and the zonal secretary, Chief Felix Omemu.
In a 10-point communique issued after their meeting, the zonal leaders equally warned those perpetuating negative leadership crises in the region to desist in their futile attempts to fan the ember of disunity in the region.
The Zonal leadership of the PDP, including Bishop Etim Ante, Zonal Publicity Secretary, and state party chairmen namely, Chief Nname Ewori, (Rivers), Chief Solomon Areyinka, (Delta), Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan, (Akwa Ibom), Solomon Agwana, (Chairman, Bayelsa State), Tony Aziegbeni, (Chairman, Edo State), and Mr. Dennis Nkiri, (Cross River ), among others, said they would act fast to strengthen and ensure the stability of its structures across the zone.
The zonal leaders decried the convening of a Zonal Executive Meeting (ZEC) without state governors in attendance and less than three per cent attendance of other statutory members.
“Any gathering including a purported Zonal Elective Congress illegally scheduled for Calabar, Cross River State without the due approval of key leaders including the state governors remains illegal and unacceptable.
“Every decision taken in the purported Zonal working committee on the 14th and the subsequent unauthorised Zonal Executive Meeting held on the 15th February 2025, in Benin, Edo State is inconsequential, illegal, null and void, and of no effect whatsoever.
“We unequivocally declare that Prof. Felix Omemu remains the authentic Zonal Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party of the South-South Zone, and accordingly pass a vote of confidence in him.
“We also pass a vote of confidence in our dear governors of the PDP in the four South-South states for their superlative performance that has brought succour to the good people of Zone and spread development to our doorsteps.”
