PDP slams Wike over attack on Bode George

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has defended its former deputy national chairman, Chief Olabode George against allegations made against him by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike.

In a statement signed by Lagos PDP Publicity Secretary Prince Dr. Christopher Odianarewo and released on August 4, 2026, the party accused Wike of making unfounded claims against George and called on the minister to withdraw his remarks.

During Wike’s monthly media chat with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, he responded to allegations that he had influenced judicial appointments, saying that George’s Maitama residence in Abuja was financed with Rivers State government funds and challenged the PDP chieftain to explain the source of funds for the house. Wike said George only describes the judiciary as corrupt whenever he loses a case.

Reacting to Wike’s comments however, Odianarewo said: “Wike hypocritically labels a man who was categorically exonerated by the Supreme Court, the highest court of the land, from all corrupt allegations during his tenure as Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Board. How does a supposedly ‘educated’ public servant conveniently forget judicial verdicts? Wike’s reckless questioning of the ownership of Chief Bode George’s Abuja residence is a clear cut case of an affront and a dangerous abuse of office. Wike must be reminded that neither he nor Rivers State has any link whatsoever to Chief Olabode George’s private residence. Wike must understand that his ministerial portfolio is not a license to intimidate citizens or weaponize state power against private individuals.

“When Chief Bode George served as the PDP National Vice Chairman (South) and successfully delivered five states in a landslide victory, Wike was merely a local government chairman struggling for political relevance in Rivers State and he has the audacity to accuse others of inconsistency when he has become the poster child for political treachery. Among those who helped him rise politically, who has he not eventually betrayed or fought? From the Odilis to the Amaechis; from the Jonathans to Chief Bode George and beyond. Mr. Minister, focus on your responsibilities in the FCT, stop embarrassing yourself with pedestrian gossip, and keep Chief Bode George’s name out of your desperate mouth.”
