PDP legislators endorse Adeleke for second term despite defection

Members of both the national and state assemblies elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Osun State have unanimously endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term, despite his recent defection to the Accord Party.

In a communiqué signed by Senator Lere Oyewumi, representing the Osun West Senatorial District, the legislators commended Adeleke for his dedication to maintaining salary payments for local government workers and for continuing development projects throughout Osun State.

“After reviewing the Governor’s performance in key areas such as infrastructure development, workers’ welfare, healthcare, and education, we offer our total support for His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, for a second term. This endorsement is in the interest of continuity, stability, and sustained progress for Osun State,” the communiqué stated.

The legislators expressed confidence in the party’s leadership under Hon Sunday Bisi, along with the State Working Committee and local leaders across all 30 local governments and 332 wards in the state. They firmly stated that any individuals or groups claiming alternative leadership lack the endorsement of the duly elected PDP caucus and should not be considered legitimate.

The communiqué further asserted that recent political changes do not weaken the strength or grassroots support of either the Governor or the PDP in Osun State. “The party remains united and firmly established across all levels and structures within the state,” it noted.

The group condemned the unlawful occupation of local government secretariats by APC members whose elections have been nullified by court rulings, denouncing the illegal diversion of public funds. They highlighted that the continued withholding of local government allocations is causing unnecessary hardship for essential service providers such as teachers, nurses, healthcare workers, and retirees.

“We call on His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to direct the illegal occupants to vacate immediately to prevent potential crises. The PDP and the government in the state are law-abiding, and we have chosen the path of peace,” they added.

Moreover, the legislators condemned the involvement of police officers in the illegal occupation of local governments, urging the Inspector General of Police to ensure that the police force remains neutral and professional in addressing local government affairs, allowing legitimate leaders to occupy their rightful positions.
