The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday announced the dissolution of the executives of 14 state chapters of the opposition party.
The publicity secretary of the Wike-backed PDP Caretaker Committee, Mr Haruna Jungun, said the affected states are: Borno, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Taraba, Kano, and Lagos.
Mr Jungun, who said the dissolution of the State Working Committees (SWCs) was taken at a meeting of the caretaker committee, noted that congresses for the 14 states have been scheduled to begin from 9 January 2026, after which the party would hold a national convention.
The PDP has been enmeshed in crisis over a tussle for control of the party machinery between PDP governors and the FCT Minister. While the governors are backing the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC), the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led caretaker committee enjoys the support of Mr Wike.

Earlier, Mr Mohammed, while speaking before the committee went into a closed-door session, said they are the authentic leadership of the major opposition party.
He said: “We are here again as caretaker committee to look into the activities of the party across the federation, to make sure that everything goes the way it’s supposed to, to make the public understand that we have a formidable team that can take responsibility of the day-to-day activities of the party across the federation.
“And I want to use this opportunity to call the attention of the public, who may be hearing and seeing a gathering of meetings here and there… The public should not be panicked.
“We have only one PDP under my leadership and my team as the caretaker committee of our great party. Party is all about being in line with the constitution of the party and that of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
