A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former governorship aspirant in Osun state, Dotun Babayemi, Thursday called for repositioning to ensure good governance.

He described good governance as a prerequisite to economic development, saying that the seeming hunger in the state deserves urgent attention

Babayemi who spoke to his mammoth supporters at Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, Osogbo, noted that a government had ruled in Osun where people enjoyed good governance and promised to ensure that the yearnings of the people are met by giving them the platform to actualize their aim.

“We once had a government in Osun that every household benefitted from its good governance, now is the time for us all in Osun to be apostles of repositioning of the state.

“Good governance is the prerequisite for economic development. The people of Osun state are hungry. We deserve a better life for our family.

“The people of Osun have come together and cried out that they want a better environment and society for themselves. This action of the people tells you that there is something that is left to be desired with the governance that they are experiencing. All I did was to give them the platform.

“People gathered here today from all local government, wards in Osun State. The people are speaking volumes that it is time for people who are supposed to take care of their welfare to have a shortfall of that.

“We have had good governance in Osun in the past, why are people rising today? DeTheres a shortfall. The people here today are from the grassroots, not the elite, they are people looking for daily bread.

“I will do the best I can do to ensure that the needs of the people at the grassroots across the state are met,” Babayemi said.

Responding to the claim that people are hungry in the state, the spokesperson for Governor Ademola Adeleke, Olawale Rasheed, described Babayemi as a frustrated politician, saying that over 14,000 bags of rice have been distributed while the government has announced a wage award of N15,000 for workers and N10,000 for pensioners.
