There was panic and anxiety in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, following Sunday night’s explosion of an explosive device suspected to be a bomb.

Though no life was lost, a residential building and shops were destroyed in the explosion which rocked the ATC area, close to the state-owned university.

The device, which exploded around the first gate of the Taraba State University, at about 9:35pm, was the fifth to have rocked the state this year and the third in Jalingo.

Although the Taraba State Police Command was yet to confirm the development, as the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Usman Abdullahi, could not pick calls put to his mobile phone, however, the police anti bomb squad were seen at the scene of the incident, to avert further occurrence.

The Taraba State police command had earlier in June 2022, arrested a 37-year-old Bala Usman, who hails from Kebi State, a suspected bomber of Nukkai and the Military 6 Brigade, both in Jalingo, who also confessed to be a member of Boko-Haram and was behind the earlier two bomb attacks in Jalingo.
