Pandemonium as lawmaker’s aide slumps, dies at NASS

From Fred Itua, Abuja

There was pandemonium at the National Assembly following the sudden collapse and death of a yet-to-be identified Senior Legislative Aide (SLA) of one of the lawmakers, at about 12 noon, yesterday.
A witness, who doesn’t want to be named, said the man died inside a private car conveying him to the National Assembly complex. He said the late aide’s son was conveying him to the complex when he suddenly collapsed inside the vehicle and died before he could be rushed into an ambulance stationed behind the White House of the National Assembly.
It was, however, learnt that the deceased was from Zamfara State and was an aide to a member of the House of Representatives.
One of the Sergeant-At-Arms in the National Assembly told Daily Sun that the deceased battled with ill-health for about one week and visited a clinic inside the complex.
The security officer said the deceased “came to the complex, yesterday, to get a permit from the clinic so he could get proper medical attention in another hospital, elsewhere.”
The nature of his sickness could not be ascertained but one of the security guards said he suffered from a heart-related ailment.
An unnamed member of the House of Representatives, who was earlier though to be his principal, denied any relationship with him when newsmen contacted him for his reaction. The National Assembly management was yet to officially react to the incident at the time of filing this report.
