The overall winner of ‘The Challenger’ being organized by the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) slated for October 23 will take home the sum of $500.
The 27-game championship will run simultaneously with the Africa Scrabble Championship (ASC) main event.
A statement from PANASA says interested players who have not qualified to play the ASC main event for their respective countries and have not qualified for the ASC thru the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) are welcomed to the register for The Challenger.
“Diaspora players will not be allowed to play this event. They will play only the ASC main event. Players whose name have been submitted as part of their country’s quota cannot downgrade to play this event,” the statement added.
The Registration fee for the tournament is $90 and includes daily tea breaks and lunch. It also includes cocktails and fingers food at the PANASA 30th anniversary event. Late registration attracts a $20 surcharge (the surcharge will not apply to players who register for the LCQ and have not qualified for the ASC and decide to register for The Challenger on October 23).
*Payment can be made on arrival*
The top prize at the event is $500. The winner will also take home the Issa Nobee trophy. The other prizes and trophies can be found on the flyer.
