The Senate has announced a N50 million donation to the families of five teachers and security personnel killed following the May 15 abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire local government area of Oyo State.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio made this known at plenary on Wednesday.

He decried the wanton loss of lives occasioned by abduction, describing it as painful.

The Senate President commended the nation’s Armed Forces and security agencies for working collaboratively to secure the release of the victims.

According to him, N10 million each would be presented to the families of the two slain teachers and three security personnel that died during the rescue operation.

The slain teachers were identified as Michael Oyedokun, who was beheaded in captivity, and John Olaleye, who was reportedly shot dead during the attack on one of the schools.

The security personnel, all soldiers, were identified as Lieutenant F.A. Isaac, Private Silas Musa, and Sergeant Abena John Jerome.

Akpabio said the donation was meant to provide support to the grieving families while recognising the ultimate sacrifices made by the deceased during the tragic incident.
