The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, has strongly condemned the escalating post-election violence and the tragic loss of lives in parts of the state.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his Special Adviser, Dr. Bolaji Akinola, the Minister described the attacks on citizens as a grave assault in the peace, heritage, and democratic values of the people of Osun State.
He emphasized that no political ambition or commercial interest can ever justify the loss of human life, urging all stakeholders to reject violence and choose dialogue to resolve disputes.
“Politics must be a vehicle for development, not a catalyst for bloodshed,” the Minister stated.
Expressing his deepest condolences to the families of those killed in the unrest, Oyetola called on the Osun State Police Command and other security agencies to act decisively to restore order and protect residents, particularly in affected areas.
He urged authorities to deploy adequate personnel to volatile locations, reclaim public spaces from hoodlums, and ensure that all perpetrators of the violence are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.
The Minister appealed to residents across the state to prioritize peace and exercise restraint, warning that the progress and prosperity of Osun must not be sacrificed for political or commercial gains.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the state’s peace, security, and overall development, calling on citizens to work together to preserve Osun’s long-standing reputation for civility, enterprise, and democratic values.
