The governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani has said that over 70 per cent Nigerians are financially excluded.
It is against this background, he sponsored the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA). But he regretted that two years after, more people are still unbanked.
Speaking when he unveiled the eTransact new products in Abuja, Sani said that in Kaduna State alone, over 2.2 million people are financially-excluded adding that in Kaduna State the national bank has few branches and this does not encourage a good banking habit.
Kaduna State Governor expressed worries over the high percentage of financial exclusivity of the northern part of the country. He is encouraged by the need for financial inclusiveness not only in the northern part of the country, but across Nigeria, Kaduna State Governor stated.
“When I got into office, my first assignment was to sign an executive order for financial inclusiveness.
“I signed executive order for financial inclusiveness when I was appointed Kaduna State Governor to trigger social interventions,” Sani maintained.
However, he enjoined other state governors to synergise with etranzact as one of the recognised payments platforms recognised in the country to attract more bankable people across the country.
In his welcome remarks, the General, Manager of eTranzact, Malam Abubakar Yahaya Achimugu stated that eTranzact has been in operation for 25 years in service and it has several products including Pocket Moni, Credo, SwitchIT.
The integrated platform for payment has set a new evolution for financial transactions, stating that digitisation is the core of payment platforms.
The Africa’s most innovative payment platforms of over two decades had demonstrated efficiency and effectiveness.
They are in partnership with the private and public sector, including state governments like Kaduna, Lagos, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) like Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB), digital banks along with government parastatals including Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME’s) platforms., the Managing Director stated.
According to him, since inception, eTranzact has innovated products such as Credo, SwitchIT, Billa and EVMS.
