From Okey Sampson, Umuahia
Dr. Oluebube Chukwu, the Senior Special Assistant on Due Process to Abia governor, Alex Otti, has said the governor’s plan of setting up a medical village in the state, will turn Abia into a medical tourist state. Chukwu said, when actualised, the facility will reverse all forms of medical tourism from India and some other parts of Europe and America to Abia State.
Chukwu, who made this known while speaking with journalists in Umuahia, said the medical village would not only bring about transformation in healthcare delivery in the state, but also lower healthcare costs.
“Abia Medical Village, when set up, will provide healthcare to meet the needs of patients in any part of the state and beyond as well as equip health care providers with tools and resources needed to care for patients to the best of their ability.
“Remember also that Governor Otti has promised during his monthly media chat that in his vision of Abia Medical Village, everything that you can find in any top notch medical centre around the world will be made available” he said
Chukwu was of the view that with the massive support the governor was already receiving from Nigerians in diaspora not just Abians, who are indicating that they would be happy to help, when set up, Abia will become a medical tourist state.
