Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti has commended the traditional ruler of Ikwuorie autonomous community in Ohanku clan, Ndoki, Ukwa East Local Area, Apostle (Eze) Chibuzor Chinyere for donating his personal land for the building of hospital in the area.

Governor Otti made the commendation while performing the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of Ukwa East General Hospital, at Ohanku Ndoki.

“I just want to thank His Royal Majesty, Chibuzor Chinyere for receiving us. I also thank him for the land he has donated for this project and his generous comments.

Otti said the project was a fulfilment of his administration’s commitment to providing quality healthcare to every nook and cranny of the State.

He stressed that the establishment of the hospital aligned with his vision of building a responsive and inclusive health system capable of meeting the needs of rural communities.

“I can assure you that your requests are in order. Also the requests made by Honourable Chris Nkwonta are also in order.

“Interestingly, we are already working on Abia Palm and in no distant future you will see it work. And of course, the 19.5 nautical miles into the high sea is correct,” said Otti.

Governor Otti revealed that work had commenced on the scoping of the Ohanku Road, Aba leading into the Ohanku community in Ukwa East LGA.

Earlier, Apostle Chinyere who is the General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM) had said he donated the 100 plots of land for the project because of the importance of the hospital to his people.

“I bought the land for a factory and other companies, but life is much important. So, when I saw the need, I decided to give out 100 plots, This gesture is to secure the lives of my people and as the king of my people, I believe that the lives of my people are more important, and God brought a man, this is just his two years in office. Just imagine what we happen in the next six years to this community and the entire Abia State.”

Going further, Eze Chinyere said, “This is a General Hospital and it will attract ancillary services. So many people are going to open pharmacy stores around, hotels will open for people to lodge in, and more houses are to be built for people to rent.

“The General Hospital is going to bring a transformation in this community and life will come back here. My people, particularly the youths are happy and they will protect the facility”.

Speaking on why he was excited about the project, Eze (Apostle) Chinyere said, “The healthcare in Ukwa East is dead. We have a health centre but it is not existing. it is only cockroach, rats and reptiles that are there. So there was no existing health centre or hospital in this place.

I am excited because suddenly, God remembered us through Otti to build a General Hospital for this community. Do you know how many lives that are going to be saved by this hospital? It is going to reduce deaths. This is not a health centre, but a General Hospital”, he said with enthusiasm.

Other Speakers, including the former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, member representing Ukwa East/Ukwa West in the House of Representatives, Hon Chris Nkwonta and Abia Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, all eulogised Otti for his works and pledged their support.
