Abia State Government has dethroned Edward  Eule, traditional ruler of Azumini community in Ukwa East Local Government Area, making it the third in the past nine months.

Two traditional rulers, including that of Ibom Isii in Arochukwu Local Government Area, had earlier been dethroned by the government for various offences.

According to Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uzor Nwachukwu, the traditional ruler had been under suspension since February 2024 for alleged misconduct and actions unbecoming of a traditional ruler.

Nwachukwu said Governor Otti has approved the withdrawal of staff of office and certificate of recognition from Eule.

He said the withdrawal of the staff of office and certificate of recognition was as a result of the alleged refusal of Eule to comply with the directives stipulated in a letter of suspension given to him on February 23, 2024, which was said to be in line with the provisions of sections 12, 14 and 20 of the Abia State Traditional Rulers and Autonomous Communities Amended Number 2 Law 2018.
