From Lateef Dada, Osogbo
The police have slammed murder, kidnapping, cultism, and armed robbery charges on a member of the Osun State Transport Management System, Oyeyemi Olalekan, popularly known as “Emir”.
The defendant was appointed as a member of the Osun Transport Disciplinary Committee by Governor Ademola Adeleke sometime in January 2023.
Emir was to be arraigned on February 1st but he was remanded at Ile-Ife correctional centre due to the jurisdiction matter raised by his counsel, Edmund Biriomoni, before the federal high court, Osogbo.
When the case came up on Tuesday, the prosecution counsel, R. E. Usman, called the attention of the court to the amended charges and a motion to notify the court of the inclusion of cultism in the charge sheet.
But Biriomoni sought an adjournment, saying that he had just been served the motion in the court and needed time to respond to the prosecution application.
He noted that there were some fundamental defects in the prosecution application that needed to be addressed and could not be raised orally.
Justice Ayoola Emmanuel, thereby adjourned the case to March 13 for arraignment while the defendant was returned to the correctional centre.
