The Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Francis Fadahunsi, has accused Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, of importing political violence and terrorism into the senatorial district ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo on Wednesday, Fadahunsi alleged that more than 40 people had been killed in the district over the past year, accusing the state government of failing to curb the rising wave of insecurity.
He claimed that 30 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had been killed within the last month alone, asserting that the violence was designed to intimidate opposition supporters and suppress voter turnout.
“Adeleke created terrorism from Ede into Osun East, the stronghold of the APC, to destabilise us so that people will not go out en masse to cast their votes,” Fadahunsi alleged.
Chronicling a series of violent incidents across Ijesaland, the senator claimed that four people were killed and 16 others sustained gunshot wounds during a crisis over local government administration control.
He also recalled violence recorded in Esa-Oke in April 2025, which reportedly left four dead and 12 injured, and alleged that members of the Amotekun Corps killed four of his constituents in Akinlalu, leaving six others critically wounded.
Senator Fadahunsi also accused unnamed government officials and political allies of backing cult groups to perpetrate violence, specifically naming individuals such as Solomon Adefioye (alias Solo Iwara).
He claimed that the situation had worsened ahead of the August 15 election, alleging that 12 APC members were killed within a 24-hour window during recent attacks.
“Go to Wesley Guild Hospital; there are corpses everywhere. The former Speaker, Timothy Owoeye, and Remi Omowaiye are in the hospital instead of planning for the election,” he stated, contrasting the unrest in Osun East with the peaceful atmosphere in the governor’s hometown of Ede.
Fadahunsi noted that he had led a protest to the palace of the Owa of Ijesaland to draw attention to the politically motivated killings and urged traditional rulers and security agencies to protect voters from intimidation.
He also accused the Director-General of the Accord Party campaign council, Senator Oyewumi Iyiola, of interfering in a case involving a suspect linked to the killing of Remi Abass in Irewole.
Dismissing counter-allegations made by Governor Adeleke against security agencies and the APC, Fadahunsi argued that such claims showed the governor was apprehensive about his electoral prospects.
“If Governor Adeleke is accusing the police, army, APC, and others, then he is afraid of losing,” Fadahunsi said.
He urged residents of Osun East to remain resolute and participate fully in the election, expressing confidence that the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), would emerge victorious.
The spokesperson to governor Ademola Adelekey Olawale Rasheed, said the allegation is an attempt to deflect from the public relation disaster Senator Fadahunsi is enmeshed in.
He said, “Ijeshaland is Governor Adeleke stronghold, not Osun APC stronghold. The whole world knows Governor is not a violent man who imports and arms thugs.
“The violence being visited on Osun East is to scare Ijesa viewers away from voting and delivering for Governor Adeleke. This plot has failed as Ijesa people have vowed to troop out en masse to cast their ballot for Adeleke on Saturday,” Rasheed said.
