A 50-year-old man, Ojetola Femi, was arraigned on Wednesday before a Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo, Osun State, for allegedly defrauding a poultry farmer of N1.545 million and stealing 153 broiler chicks.

Ojetola was brought to court by the Nigeria Police on three counts related to obtaining money under false pretences and theft, which are contrary to the provisions of the law.

Police prosecutor, Oluokun Babatunde, alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N1,545,000 from Saheed Jimoh, claiming he would rear 153 broiler chicks for him, fully aware that the claim was false. This action is said to be in violation of Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, Nigeria, 2002.

Femi, however, pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Presiding Chief Magistrate, Muibat Olatunji, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

She said one of the sureties must provide a valid means of identification and must be a blood relative of the defendant.

The case has been adjourned to February 19 for hearing.
