Ipetumodu in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State was agog on Friday as people from all walks of life gathered to honour Chief Femi Adesina, the former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari.
He was celebrated by the Old Students’ Association of Origbo Community High (Unity) School at a welcome-back get-together organised in his honour for successfully serving for eight years in the immediate past administration in Nigeria.
Adesina, who was admitted into the school in 1975 and finished in 1980, appreciated the old students for the honour. He noted that Buhari made 109 international trips and he was on his entourage in the majority of the trips. He promised that he would not relent in his efforts to support his alma mater.
The National President of the Old Students’ Association of the school, ‘Gunle Adesiyan, noted: “We gathered here today to welcome you back from your national assignment. There is no doubt that you served the nation meritorious.
“And to the glory of God, you did not have encounter with the ‘evil spirit’ as once postulated by your predecessor.
“But in your response to the postulation, and if I may quote you from your recent book, entitled: “Working With Buhari’, you stated : ‘Well, I slept in my house in the Villa for eight years, and I snored, even so loudly to wake myself up.
“So, it’s really different strokes for different folks. Fire accidents in the Villa? I lived for eight years. And not even a knockout exploded.’
Adesiyan gave glory to God for protecting Adesina throughout his tenure at Aso Villa. He added: “We can simply refer to you as a ‘man who came, saw and conquer.’ We are happy that our Femi Adesina is back hale and hearty after having spent eight years in Aso Villa.
He recalled that Adesina on Friday May 15, 2019, facilitated the donation of a state-of-the-art ICT hub with over N10million by the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria to the school. The embassy, he stated further, assisted the school with another N5million for capacity building. He added that Adesina also donated handsomely for provision of security for the equipment in the ICT hub.
The chairperson of the planning committee for the programme, Mrs. Funke Adekunle, thanked Adesina for honouring the invitation. She added that Adesina was celebrated when he was appointed by Buhari.
