A caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Osun State, Omoluabi Progressive Caucus, has dragged Ismail Omipidan, the media aide to Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, to the police for saying that Rauf Aregbesola, former Interior Minister, may not be able to withstand the onslaught.
A copy of the petition received by the Commissioner of Police, Osogbo headquarters, and made available to Daily Sun, was dated April 2, 2024, and copied Department of State Security.
The group demanded investigation and clarification regarding a statement made by Omipidan in a published article which reads: “But one thing Aregbesola must know is that an average Osun APC faithful only appears to be waiting for the appropriate time to square up with him. When the time comes, the former governor may not be able to withstand the onslaught. I rest my case for now.”
The caucus in a petition jointly signed by its chairman and secretary, Azeez Adesiji and Lani Baderinwa, contended that the words made by Omipidan, implying a potential threat to the life of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, have caused significant alarm within their caucus and the wider community.
“We recall previous incidents of violence and intimidation directed towards Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, allegedly perpetrated by individuals associated with the Oyetola-led government. Against this backdrop, Mr. Omipidan’s statement cannot be overlooked and warrants a thorough investigation to ensure the safety and security of all individuals involved.
“Therefore, we respectfully request that the Department of State Security initiate an investigation into the remarks made by Mr. Ismail Omipidan. Specifically, we seek clarification regarding the intent behind his statement suggesting that Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola may not survive a future “onslaught.” Such language is inflammatory and has the potential to incite violence and unrest within our state.
“As representatives of the Omoluabi Progressive Caucus, we are committed to upholding the principles of peace, democracy, and the rule of law. We believe that by addressing this matter promptly and decisively, we can prevent any further escalation of tensions and ensure the safety of all individuals within our community.
“Therefore, we urge the Department of State Security to take immediate action by inviting Mr. Ismail Omipidan for questioning and clarification regarding his statements. We trust that through this process, clarity can be achieved, and appropriate measures can be taken to maintain peace and security in our state,” the group said.
