The wife of former Osun State Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, has appealed to the Hausa community in the state to support the governorship bid of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), ahead of the 15 August 2026 governorship election.
Mrs Oyetola made the appeal during a visit to the Hausa community in Sabo, Osogbo, where she was accompanied by her sister, Dr Sekinat Oyebamiji, and Princess Abimbola Adereti.
The delegation was received by 35 Sarkin Hausas representing the three senatorial districts of Osun State.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs Oyetola expressed gratitude to the Hausa community for its steadfast support during the administration of her husband, former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, noting that the bond had remained strong even after he left office.
“I want to thank you for standing with us when my husband served as governor. Even after we left office, you never abandoned us. That loyalty means everything to us,” she said.
She described Oyebamiji as an experienced administrator with a proven track record in public service, citing his achievements at the Osun State Investment Company Limited (OSICOL), his tenure as Commissioner for Finance, and his leadership roles at the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
“AMBO is a man I know well. He is reliable, dependable and committed to service. He will not disappoint the people of Osun State,” she said.
Mrs Oyetola also assured members of the Hausa community that their interests would be protected under an Oyebamiji administration, pledging greater inclusion, youth empowerment and improved access to basic amenities.
“The Hausa community will not be left behind. We are committed to ensuring that every segment of Osun society benefits from good governance,” she added.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr Sekinat Oyebamiji reiterated the APC candidate’s commitment to inclusive governance, promising increased opportunities for youths and greater attention to the welfare of Hausa settlements across the state.
In their response, leaders of the Hausa community endorsed Oyebamiji’s candidacy and pledged their support for the APC in the forthcoming election.
The Sarkin Hausa of Osun State, Alhaji Muhammad Lawal Gomina, said the community was convinced of Oyebamiji’s competence, leadership qualities and development agenda for the state.
He, however, urged the APC candidate to ensure greater inclusion of Hausa residents in government appointments, employment opportunities and infrastructural development.
The visit formed part of ongoing grassroots consultations and stakeholder engagements by supporters of the APC governorship candidate ahead of the election.
The delegation also visited Sabo Market and paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Grand Imam of Sumuratul Mumineen, Alhaji Lateef Owolabi.
