The Online Staff Appraisal Team (OSTAPP) from Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana, has earned third place at the 2025 National Exhibition on Creativity and Innovation in Polytechnics, Monotechnics, and Innovation Enterprise Institutions (IEIS) focused on Employment Generation. The competition, held recently at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) in Abuja, showcased innovations from 83 tertiary institutions across the country.
Team OSTAPP, comprising Mr. Okwara K. K., Mr. Gift Adene, and Miss Ekpo Virtue Iniobong, an ND II Computer Science student, presented their “Digital Transformation in Government Human Resource Management: The Case of the Online Staff Appraisal Management System.” Their project addresses the inefficiencies and environmental impact of traditional paper-based staff appraisals by digitizing the entire process. The system also utilises Persuasive Computing Technology to ensure staff meet promotion requirements, contributing to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 8, 12, and 13.
“We are thrilled to have placed third in such a prestigious national event,” said team leader Okwara K. K. Team member Gift Adene added, “This win is a testament to the hard work and innovation of our entire team and the Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic.”
Dr. Felix Attah, the Polytechnic’s Rector, represented by the Deputy Rector (Academics), Dr. Nsude F., praised the team’s achievement. “Team OSTAPP has made us immensely proud,” he stated. “This achievement highlights the technical excellence of our students and underscores the strength of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic as a hub for innovation.”
The first and second prizes were awarded to Federal Polytechnic, Illaro, for their Electrical Tricycle and Auchi Polytechnic for their Smart Energy Meter, respectively.
The exhibition, organized by Ubelle Nigeria Limited on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, concluded with a call for increased support for tech development in Nigerian polytechnics and monotechnics. OSTAPP’s success serves as an inspiration for future innovators at Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana. The institution is known for its commitment to academic excellence and technological innovation, offering a wide range of programs and fostering a vibrant research culture.
