The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has ordered the immediate suspension of all enforcement activities related to the ban on sachet alcohol products by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

The directive mandates that all actions, decisions, or enforcement measures by NAFDAC or any other agency concerning the proposed ban must cease immediately, pending a final resolution from the OSGF.

The suspension followed the receipt of a formal correspondence, dated November 13, 2025, from the House of Representatives Committee on Food and Drugs Administration and Control. Signed by Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, Deputy Chairman of the Committee, the letter drew the OSGF’s attention to existing National Assembly resolutions on the matter.

“The correspondence is currently under review and consideration by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, in line with its statutory coordinating role,” said a statement signed by Terrence Kuanum, Special Adviser on Public Affairs to the OSGF.

The OSGF emphasised that any enforcement action undertaken by NAFDAC or any other agency without its express clearance and resolution is of no effect and should be disregarded by the public.

The office further assured Nigerians that it was carefully examining all relevant legislative resolutions, economic implications, public health concerns and broader national interest considerations to ensure a balanced, lawful and well-coordinated outcome.

“The public will be informed once a final position on the sachet alcohol ban has been reached,” the statement added.
