Presidential candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) in the 2023 general elections, Ambassador Felix Osakwe, has condemned the recent killings in Benue State, describing the massacre as barbaric .
Osakwe extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of the state.
In a statement yesterday, Osakwe described the incident as one too many and emphasized that such avoidable violence should be universally condemned in a religious nation like Nigeria, as he urged the people to take solace in their faith.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for his visit to the state, saying that the president really demonstration empathy and commitment to national unity.
Osakwe highlighted the strategic importance of Benue as the food basket of the nation and warned that ongoing violence could have severe consequences on national food production.“We must not allow bloodshed to overshadow the state’s vital role in feeding the nation,” he said.
He extended his solidarity to the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia, expressing hope that the crisis, though challenging, was a temporary setback,“Like all things, this too shall pass,” he affirmed.
He urged political and community leaders to guide the youths with wisdom and avoid inflammatory rhetoric that could incite violence or reprisal,“Many of these challenges stem from misinformation and lack of mentorship.
“As a party, the NRM stands in solidarity with the people and government of Benue state. We pray for an end to this wave of violence and for the restoration of peace. No one has the right to take another’s life, and this principle must become our collective mindset. Bitterness and hatred only bring destruction—we must choose peace, unity, and love under one God.”
