Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA) Global Resource Initiative has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria’s security agencies for securing the release of kidnapped victims in Oyo State, describing the operation as a demonstration of effective coordination and professionalism.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its Executive Director, Buna Olaitan Isiak, the rights organisation said the successful rescue of the victims had restored public confidence in the capacity of the government and security agencies to protect lives and property.
According to the organisation, the swift response of the security agencies and the safe reunion of the victims with their families deserve commendation.
“We appreciate the quick response, coordination and professionalism demonstrated by the security agencies in securing the freedom of the victims and reuniting them with their families. This action restores hope in the capacity of the state to protect lives and property,” the statement said.
While applauding the successful operation, HURMA urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts to address the country’s security challenges, stressing that protecting the lives and welfare of citizens remains the government’s primary constitutional responsibility under Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution.

The organisation noted that kidnapping and other forms of insecurity continue to pose serious threats to human rights, public safety and national development.
It called on the government to strengthen intelligence gathering and community policing across the country, ensure the prosecution of sponsors and perpetrators of kidnapping as a deterrent, and provide victims with psychosocial support and reintegration assistance.
HURMA also reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring and documenting human rights issues while collaborating with government institutions and security agencies to promote the protection of the rights, security and dignity of all Nigerians.
The organisation further urged the Tinubu administration to sustain efforts to combat insecurity until every Nigerian can live without fear.
