In a bid to tackle the increasing scourge in drug abuse in Nigeria, the Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation (ADWF), led by its global president, Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, paid a courtesy call on Phenomenal Strides Foundation (PSF), as part of it’s strategic actions to boost deliberate synergy required to collectively tackle the complex drug problem destabilizing families and ravaging communities across the country.
In her welcome statement, Ibiba Odili, founder and CEO, PST, commended the ADWF for it’s exemplary commitment and passion towards reducing the drug menace in families and communities, targeting the vulnerable and marginalized, ensuring that no one is left behind.
She informed the esteemed gathering that the PSF was established to lend its voice, commit knowledge and passion towards changing the frightening drug scourge narrative. This, she explained, will be executed through youth empowerment programmes, family strengthening initiatives and community development projects.
Wahab, in his remarks, lauded the efforts of Odili, the former NDLEA Ogun State commander and coordinator of the National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP) secretariat, for her outstanding contributions in championing innovative drug control initiatives. He expressed optimism that Odili’s retirement will provide a wider scope for her to engage other stakeholders for increased multi-lateral drug control outcomes.
A key outcome of the event was the pledge by the leadership of both organizations to implement tailored interventions in addressing the needs and peculiarities of different target groups in communities. It was agreed that this collaborative strategy is necessary to bolster capacities, resources and commitments required to improve drug control outcomes.
The event was also a platform to celebrate the PSF, Odili for a remarkable career and retirement from the NDLEA after 35 years of meritorious service.
A significant highlight of the event was the investiture of Odili as a senior special adviser to the ADWF, in recognition of her expertise, experience and dedication, which will come to bear in ensuring that a drug-free society, a core goal of both organizations, is achieved.
The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including leaders of the Lions Clubs International, District 404B3, Nigeria, senior NDLEA retired officers and other wellwishers.
