The General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM) worldwide, Chibuzor Chinyere, has disclosed his plans to start training pupils of OPM free primary school on free skills.
He stated this on Thursday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, when he donated a plot of land to a widow with cash to start building on the land and donation of bags of rice.
According to him, this idea will go along way in totally eliminating restiveness in the Nigerian youths.
He said: “This is a catch them young programme which will provide skills for the children at the primary school level. This implies that by the time they will get to the secondary school, they already have an income generation skills.
“We have decided to introduce skills from primary school so that before they enter or finish from secondary school, they will become very perfect in their desired skills.”
“They will be trained on the following skills; furniture making, generator repairs, car painting, tailoring, electrical/ electronics repairs, food and nutrition and many others.
According to the cleric, the purpose of the training is to acquinted the children with useful skills that could help them to be finincially independent after graduation.
Chinyere said: “When they enter university, they enter with skills, they are already feeding themselves without depending on their parents for feeding.
“It is also pertinent to state that this gesture will go along Way to stop those youths roaming the street for lack of Job after graduation from the university. They will not go into crime because they already have skills that can sustain them in life.
” When they graduate from university, while they are waiting for their dream jobs, they will not be pressured to go into crime for survival because they are already making money.”
The OPM Founder and General Overseer said the skills programme would be another crime-control measure which will help to bring about peace, progress, prosperity and national development.
He added that the programme would be funded through tithes and offerings from OPM church.
