Raphael Onyedika was left beaming after scoring twice in Nigeria’s 3–1 victory over Uganda in their final Group C match at the Africa Cup of Nations, describing the moment as the reward for years of hard work.
The midfielder delivered a commanding performance, netting a brace to help the Super Eagles seal a crucial win and head into the knockout stages with confidence.
“Thank you everyone. I feel very happy and I can’t really explain how I feel in this moment,” Onyedika said after the game. “These are moments I’ve been working towards all my life, and I’m happy that things are starting to come under control.”
Onyedika also reflected on the patience and discipline required to succeed at international level, stressing the importance of staying ready even when opportunities are limited.

“It’s the same as for any other player—when you’re not playing, you have to stay focused, keep working hard and wait for your opportunity,” he added. “It’s about being ready when that opportunity comes, performing whenever the coach calls on you, because in the end it’s the coach who decides who plays.”
The 23-year-old praised the demanding standards within the squad under head coach Eric Chelle, noting that competition and intensity have driven the team’s performances.
“It feels good, but it’s also tough because of the standards and demands we set in training and in games,” Onyedika said. “Eric Chelle expects a lot from the players and we push everyone. It’s amazing.”
Nigeria’s win over Uganda ensured a strong finish to their group campaign, with Onyedika’s standout display further strengthening his case as the Super Eagles prepare for the next stage of the tournament.
