Ella Onojuvwevwo ran a new 52.52 lifetime best to win the 400m event at the Lloyd Wills Invitational at Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday.
The 18 year old has now broken the 52.59 lifetime best she set in the event last June at the Nigerian Championship.
Since the beginning of the year, the Nigerian has set new lifetime bests in the 200m (24.11) and 400m (52.61) in her first season running indoors.
Onojuvwevwo’s 52.52 time is the fastest by a Nigerian over the distance so far this year.
Meanwhile long jumper, Ruth Usoro’s bid to set a new personal best in the long jump event was denied by an excessive 2.5mps tail wind at the Miramar Invitational in Miramar, Florida.
The World indoor and outdoor championships and the Commonwealth Games finalist leapt a distance of 6.82m, a clear four centimetre farther than her 6.78m personal but the excessive win renders it illegal.
