The Caretaker Chairman of Machete Dealers Association, Main Market, Onitsha, Chinedu Aniagboso, has described the protest against his appointment as chairman of the market as stage-managed.
Aniagboso in a statement said it was sad that a few people in the market, who saw politics as their trade, could go to the length of undermining the policies and actions of the Anambra government to achieve their selfish gains.
The statement came in the wake of the protest that trailed the inauguration of the Caretaker Committee on August 23 by the state government.
Anyanwo, who claimed to be the elected chairman of the machete dealers, described the appointment as imposition and called on the government to rescind it.
Aniagboso noted that those who staged the protest were rented to blackmail the government, adding that he would not be distracted.
He promised to complete the new site project for permanent relocation of Machete at Ogidi in good time.
