The Oniru of Iru Kingdom, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal Abisogun II, has identified key drivers of insecurity in Nigeria while urging youth leaders to play a more active role in promoting national stability and development.
The monarch made the remarks when he hosted members of the Forum of State Chairmen of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) at his palace, during their visit to Lagos for a strategic retreat.
Addressing the delegation led by the forum chairman and NYCN Lagos State chairman, Mr. Adigun Ibrahim Olalekan, Oba Lawal outlined several factors fuelling insecurity across the country.
He cited illiteracy, regional tensions, and the activities of saboteurs as major contributors to the nation’s security challenges.
Despite this, he expressed confidence in ongoing government interventions, assuring the youth leaders that improvements in the security landscape would soon follow the positive strides already being recorded in the economy.
Oba Lawal emphasized that Nigerian youths remain central to addressing these issues, describing them as the nation’s strongest hope for a secure and prosperous future.
He encouraged the NYCN state chairmen to intensify efforts that promote unity, peaceful coexistence, and constructive engagement among young people nationwide.
The monarch further urged them to embody integrity, discipline, and diligence as ambassadors of Nigeria, noting that youth leadership is a critical pillar in the country’s socio-economic advancement.
In his earlier remarks, Adigun expressed gratitude to the monarch for his warm reception and longstanding support for youth-focused initiatives.
He was joined by state chairmen from the 35 states and the FCT to present an award of distinction to Oba Lawal for his exemplary leadership and notable contributions to youth development.
The visit strengthened collaboration between the traditional institution and youth leadership, reinforcing the vital role of young Nigerians in shaping the nation’s future.
