One person was feared dead during a clash that involved supporters of Kwara South Senatorial candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) in Ojoku, Oyun Local Government Area of the state.
A middle-age man, Samson Adeosun, was allegedly killed and several others injured when unknown gun men attacked the campaign team of the APC candidate, Lola Ashiru, in Ojoku.
Adeosun was hit when the team clashed with some members of the PDP at the palace of Olojoku of Ojoku, Oba Alhaji Yekeen Afolabi, around around 9:00p.m, on Tuesday.
The body of the victim, a Higher National Diploma applicant, was said to have been deposited at the mortuary, while the injured were receiving treatments at Offa general hospital.
The attack in Ojoku, the hometown of Senator Rafiu Adebayo, the PDP Senatorial candidate in Saturday’s elections, was blamed on some people believed to be PDP thugs by Ashiru campaign team.
Addressing the press in Offa, yesterday, Mr Femi Whyte, Director General of the campaign team, said the perpetrators of the act had earlier laid siege to entrance of the Olojoku’s palace.
He said Ashiru was about stepping out of the palace after paying homage to the monarch, when the gunmen opened fire on the team from different directions.
Whyte added that it took the intervention of police patrol team who rescued the APC senatorial candidate and other members of the team out from the area of the attack.
