The newly elected chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Kolawole Babatunde, has dismissed concerns over the recent Idanre bloodshed, insisting that the party’s state congress complied fully with the law and the party constitution.

Speaking Tuesday night on Politics Today on Channels Television, Babatunde said there was “no cause for alarm” regarding the outcome of the congress in Ondo.

“What we have done is in line with the Electoral Act. So, there is no cause for alarm. We don’t have anything to fear. We have done the right thing,” he said.

He stressed that the congress was not peculiar to Ondo State, noting that similar exercises were conducted across the country in accordance with the party’s constitution and relevant legal provisions.

“The congresses have been conducted across the country, not just in Ondo state. It was conducted in line with the constitution and there is no cause for alarm,” he added.

Babatunde also distance the party from the incident that marred the APC ward congress in Idanre, where two persons were reportedly killed.

According to him, the clash had no connection with the congress held that day, describing it as a coincidence.

“This does not have anything in any way to do with the congress that took place on that very day. It’s just a coincidence. I heard there was a clash between rival cult groups,” he said.

He added that arrests had been made and that security agencies were investigating the matter to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killings.

“Arrests have been made; the appropriate authorities will get to the root of the issue.”

The Idanre incident had triggered concerns among party members and residents, but the APC chairman maintained that the integrity of the congress process in Ondo State remained intact.
