The Super Falcons of Nigeria produced a scintillating second-half display to defeat Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses 3-0 in their second international friendly match at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, on Monday.

After a closely contested first half ended goalless, the nine-time African champions stepped up the tempo after the break, converting their dominance into three well-taken goals to delight the home supporters.

Nigeria started brightly and nearly opened the scoring in the opening minute when captain Rasheedat Ajibade delivered an early set-piece into the danger area. The Falcons continued to apply pressure, with Joy Omewa and Gift Monday posing constant threats to the Senegalese defence.

Despite creating several promising opportunities, the hosts were unable to find the breakthrough before halftime. Omewa came closest in the 15th minute when she rounded the goalkeeper but saw her effort crash against the woodwork as Senegal held firm to keep the scoreline level at the interval.

The deadlock was finally broken three minutes into the second half. Shukurat Oladipo delivered an inviting cross from the right, and Omewa rose highest to head home Nigeria’s opening goal in the 48th minute.

The forward doubled her tally and Nigeria’s advantage seven minutes later, showing strength and composure to power through the Senegalese backline before calmly slotting past the goalkeeper for 2-0.

The Super Falcons sealed victory in the 66th minute when Ajibade embarked on a surging run before setting up substitute Asisat Oshoala, who made no mistake in finishing from close range to make it 3-0.

The convincing win capped an impressive performance from the Super Falcons, who combined attacking flair with defensive discipline throughout the encounter.

The result provides further encouragement for head coach Justine Madugu and his squad as they continue preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco, where Nigeria will be aiming to extend their record as the continent’s most successful women’s national team.
