Omare disclaims SAN designation in Daily Sun report

Dr. Eric Omare, Principal Counsel of E. K. Omare & Co, has disclaimed his designation as Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in a report published in the August 20, 2026 edition of the Daily Sun.

The disclaimer followed a report titled “Court Halts Heritage Operations, Orders Cleanup of Uzere Oil Spill,” in which the law firm representing the plaintiff in the suit was identified as E. K. Omare, SAN Chambers.

In a rejoinder to the Daily Sun, Omare confirmed that his law firm is representing the plaintiff in Suit No. FHC/PH/CS/132/2026: HRM Udogiri 1, JP v. Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited & Anor, in which the orders reported by the newspaper were made.

He, however, said it was legally and professionally wrong to describe him or his law firm as E. K. Omare, SAN Chambers.

“It is legally wrong and against the ethics of the legal profession for me or the law firm to be addressed as E. K. Omare, SAN, Chambers,” he stated.

Omare explained that although he had not been sworn in as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, he could not formally assume the designation.

“I have not been sworn-in as Senior Advocate of Nigeria, hence, I cannot be addressed as Senior Advocate of Nigeria, until all the conditions precedent are fulfilled and sworn-in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria,” he said.

He therefore urged that the designation be corrected, stating: “I wish to clearly disclaim my designation as Senior Advocate of Nigeria in the Sun Newspaper of August 20, 2026 or any other news report where I was so addressed.”
