The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase, has called on local communities to maintain cooperation and timely information sharing with troops to bolster ongoing army operations.
He made the call while addressing some members of the Dokolo community in Machika Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State during an operational assessment visit to 17 Brigade Area of Responsibility on Tuesday, 27 October 2026.
This was contained in a statement issued by Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi.
Addressing frontline troops during the visit, Major General Wase charged them to uphold high standards of professionalism, remain vigilant and maintain readiness at all times.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Army Headquarters and Division leadership to prioritise troop welfare, operational capability and logistics support to maximise combat efficiency.
Accompanied by the Commander, 17 Brigade, Brigadier General Ishaya Ibrahim, the GOC also visited troops at Forward Operating Base Faskari. During the visit, Major General Wase commended the troops for their resilience and dedication to duty.
Extolling their high morale despite challenging terrain, he assured them of the continuous Nigerian Army’s effort in addressing their administrative and logistics needs.
Relatedly, the GOC paid a condolence visit to Dutsinma to convey the sympathies of the Chief of Army Staff to the family and followers of the late Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka, who was recently assassinated. Major General Wase appealed for calm, urging the community to remain law-abiding while security agencies intensify investigations to bring the perpetrators of the heinous act to justice.
