The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has extended his condolences to the people of Kwara State following the tragic bandit attacks in Woro village that claimed the lives of over 170 residents.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Alli Ibrahim, on Tuesday, the monarch condemned the politicisation of the attack and called for a spirit of love, unity and togetherness among Nigerians.

He cautioned President Bola Tinubu regarding his relationship with the Trump administration, suggesting that the successes of the current Nigerian government may be viewed unfavourably by Western nations.

Oba Akanbi said: “No Western nation is happy that African countries are becoming peaceful, and every plot to intervene in Nigeria’s fight against insecurity may be a hidden agenda.” He emphasised that no nation has successfully combated banditry while harbouring divided interests and urged Nigerians to unite to tackle the menace.

Expressing his displeasure over the inadequate response to the Woro village attacks, Oluwo said: “The life of every Nigerian is priceless beyond religious and political sentiments.” He criticised stakeholders who exploit bandit attacks for religious or political gain, labelling them as unpatriotic.

Oluwo tasked security agencies with improving their collaboration with local intelligence to better address the rampant violence and property destruction. He further warned President Tinubu against foreign intervention in Nigeria’s security architecture, suspecting it might be intended to create divisions along religious lines.

“The success recorded by President Tinubu’s administration poses a threat to Western countries. The current escalation of banditry is suspicious and must be handled with care. Tinubu’s engagement with the Trump administration should be critically examined for Nigeria’s best interest,” he stated.

Reflecting on the emotional toll of the Woro village attacks, Oba Akanbi called for national unity: “We should all be one, jettison tribal and religious differences, and provide intelligence to assist security operatives without fear or favour.”

He expressed heartfelt condolences to the families impacted by the tragedy and the Kwara State Government, expressing a hope for peace and healing within the affected community: “I feel the pain of their families and commiserate with the entire community on this irreparable loss. May their souls rest in peace.”
