Former Nigerian squash number one Moses Olubo is expected to roll into Lagos on Wednesday, capping off an extraordinary transcontinental journey undertaken aboard a Can-Am Spyder motorcycle.
Olubo’s route has taken him across the United States, through Canada, Iceland, Scandinavia and Western Europe, before he crossed the Sahara Desert and tackled the rugged Fouta Jallon Highlands en route to Nigeria.
A Meet and Greet has been organised in his honour at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, at 2pm on Wednesday, August 26, where friends, sports enthusiasts and members of the public are expected to give him a hero’s welcome.
Organisers have dubbed him a “3-Continent Adventurer,” in recognition of the scale of the expedition and the endurance it demanded.
Pinning down his exact arrival time has proven difficult, largely due to complications faced while riding through Ghana on a motorcycle not registered under the ECOWAS system. As of Tuesday, Olubo was said to be finalising his exit from Ghana, with the remaining leg to Lagos expected to pose fewer obstacles.
News of the journey has stirred excitement among his friends and admirers, who are urging Nigerians — particularly those in the sporting community — to turn out at the National Stadium and celebrate his achievement.
The event is expected to give sports lovers a chance to reconnect with Olubo and mark a journey that has woven together sport, endurance and exploration across three continents.
Organisers apologised for the short notice, noting that the unpredictable nature of the trip made it difficult to confirm his arrival date and time any earlier.
